One of Wakefield’s Own Moves Ever Closer to Her Olympic Dream

One of Wakefield’s Own Moves Ever Closer to Her Olympic Dream

For all of us who have thrilled over the years to watch Class of 2019 alumna Molly Cesanek’s meteoric rise through the world of ice dancing--all while excelling for 13 years at Wakefield!--here is an exciting dispatch as the world gears up for the Beijing Olympics this year.

Director of Development and Community Relations Ann-Charlotte Robinson received these pictures from former Wakefield faculty member and theatrical costumer extraordinaire Nancy Hutcheson (also mom of Wakefield alumnae Jordan '11 and Haleigh '12).

“As luck would have it,” Nancy wrote, “one of Haleigh’s best friends, professional photographer Sam Echols of Sam Echols Photography, attended the US National 2022 Figure Skating Championships last weekend. Haleigh asked Sam to get some shots of Molly and her partner Yehor if she could. These are the shots Sam took. Enjoy!”

The stunning images from the National Championships show the results of Molly’s many years of training and hard work—combined, of course, with the passion and talent she was clearly born with, as well as the great good fortune several years ago to have found in Yehor a perfect ice dancing partner.

“Molly was a lifer here at Wakefield,” says Mrs. Robinson, “and throughout her tenure, maintained a rigorous practice schedule at the same time as being a student and friend in good standing at school.  Cheerful, always willing to help (when time allowed, of course), smart and kind, Molly is someone we can all be proud of.”

Molly and Yehor just entered ice dancing’s senior circuit last year and finished in the middle of the competition at 2022 Nationals, so they will not be going to the Olympics...this time!  But Molly and Yehor are years younger than the youngest ice dancing pair that will represent the U.S. in Beijing this year--so they are surely people to watch on the national scene going forward.  Brava, Molly!
