Athletics at Wakefield

Wakefield Athletics, in conjunction with academics and community engagement, enhances our school's mission by providing student athletes with athletic opportunities that enhance their teamwork and interpersonal skills through challenges and educational experiences presented by sports competitions.

Lower
School

The core pillars of physical education in the Lower School are understanding social awareness, fostering positive relationships, and demonstrating a keen knowledge of physical education. Through learning and enhancing locomotor and manipulative skills, students refine and hone their cognitive, affective, and psychomotor abilities.

Middle
School

The central themes of Middle School athletics are participation and discovery. Each Middle School student is expected to participate in a sport each season, and this expectation results in exploration and discovery of new skills, unexpected affinities, and satisfying accomplishments. Middle School athletes are strongly encouraged and supported throughout the process of trying something new so that exploration and discovery become familiar and desirable experiences.

Upper
School

Fielding 15 varsity sports, our Upper School athletes understand the importance of determination, collaboration, and leadership. Every student has the opportunity to play a sport no matter their skill level. With the current Upper School population, the school maintains an 87% student participation rate in athletics.

Athletic
Training

Athletic trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled healthcare professionals who render service or treatment and reduce risk in a variety of settings. Some people confuse ATs with personal trainers or physical therapists, but there are many differences. Certified athletic trainers not only handle immediate injuries and life-threatening events, but also provide preventative assessments, evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by active youth and adults. Wakefield School places a high priority on the safety of their students as demonstrated by providing a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC or AT) for our sports programs.
