Community Service

Instilling good character is pivotal in developing well-rounded students which is why our motto is “Virtus et Sapientia,” Latin for virtue and wisdom. Engaging our students in community service is at the heart of our curriculum. Finding inspiration and initiating ways to give back to organizations locally and globally is a passion woven into the fabric of our student body.

Lower School
Bake Sale

In our Lower School, the 5th graders recently had a field trip to Hope & Serenity Animal Farm Sanctuary. After learning about their need to fundraise for hay to feed the animals over the winter months, the students collectively decided to pitch in. They organized a school-wide bake sale in which all the proceeds benefited the farm. Students were encouraged to spread the word to their peers and Wakefield community members. We are proud to say the 5th-grade students were successful, donating a significant amount to the organization, totaling $3,510.26.

Health & Wellness

Our Middle and Upper School students are actively involved in various community service programs, whether through our student Health and Wellness program or Interact Club.

The Health and Wellness Program has enabled our close partnership with Grace Episcopal Church, giving our students opportunities to be involved in the wood, garden, and food bank ministries (Peas and Grace), in addition to a program called Meet In The Middle, established to bridge the gap between younger and older generations. The wood ministry assists local homeowners whose homes are solely heated off wood-burning stoves. Students split wood and deliver it to residents in need.

Volunteering with Animals

Wakefield has also established partnerships with Middleburg Humane Animal Foundation and Keeper’s Haven Animal Sanctuary, where students regularly volunteer their time to care for the animals in residence. The students involved find deep fulfillment and often form close bonds with the animals while experiencing positive mental health benefits.

Helping Those
in Need

Additionally, our Interact Club, sponsored by the Haymarket Rotary Club, most recently had our students assist Fauquier Fish, an organization that provides food to those in need. Collectively, the club packaged over 500 bags of food. Operation Christmas Child was another recent outreach where students put together packages of presents to be delivered to families in need around the world.

These enriching partnerships shed light on just some of the ways we develop good character through community service within our student body.
