Dr. Miller creates learning opportunities for her students to foster their curiosity about biology, develop their confidence in STEM fields, and visualize their futures in science. Combining her background as a research scientist in molecular and cellular biology with her love of biodiversity and a global emphasis on protecting the planet, she engages her students with hands-on exploration and experimentation to build their framework of knowledge as the basis for understanding the wide range of novel topics that challenge scientists today. In her free time, she enjoys participating in Wakefield's extracurricular activities to support her daughter, a Wakefield sophomore. She looks forward to visiting her three Wakefield-lifer sons at college; two attend Christopher Newport University, and one at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her hobbies include reading, planting trees to reforest her family farm, propagating acorns dropped by Wakefield's historic oaks, walking her Bernese Mountain dogs in the woods, and riding her horse in the beautiful Virginia Piedmont countryside.
