Middle School Visual Arts
All Middle School Visual Arts are one trimester long and meet three days a week for an hour.
Sixth grade: Classes introduce primary media of painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. Highlights of the year include Ceramic Gargoyles, Papier Mache Oaxacan Animals, Large-Scale contour graphite drawings, and Sculptural Shoe or Hat Transformations.
Seventh grade: Projects build on skills and concepts introduced in sixth grade. Highlights of the year are Ceramic Personality Boxes, Linoleum Block Printmaking, Large-Scale contour drawings that introduce volume and 3-dimensionality, and Acrylic Geometry Paintings.
Eighth grade: In Visual Arts, students use the skills and knowledge gained in previous years to explore their creative ideas in greater depth. Year highlights are Self-Portrait Ceramic Tiles in the style of Andy Warhol, Wire Animal Sculptures, Mixed Media and Watercolor Puzzle Paintings, and Handmade Out of the Box Books.
