Tuition alone cannot sustain the breadth and depth of what Wakefield's students and faculty achieve each year. Like all independent schools in this country, we make up the difference through tax-deductible donations to an Annual Fund. All funds raised are used to augment the general operating budget of the school and thereby allow for the many extras that make the Wakefield experience unique. The funds also help keep our faculty salaries competitive, providing resources for professional development, for maintaining the quality of the athletic and fine arts equipment and facilities, and for supporting academic departments. One of the most beneficial characteristics of the Annual Fund is that it allows our teachers the flexibility to take advantage of exciting opportunities that arise for the students throughout the year.
The Annual Appeal is mailed to the entire community in late September and there are subsequent mailings and phonathons conducted throughout the academic year. The Annual Fund remains open for contributions until the end of the fiscal year – June 30th
Types of Annual Giving:
Unrestricted giving allows Wakefield to use your cash gift where it is needed the most. This is the category of giving in which we encourage everyone to participate at the level which is appropriate for you and your family. When you give an unrestricted annual fund gift, it is counted for Participation for your constituency (parent, grandparent, faculty, trustee, alumni, student, friend, etc.) and, if you are a current parent, for your child(ren)’s grade(s).
Restricted gifts are those cash donations which a donor has earmarked for a specific purpose – funding for uniforms for an athletic team, books for the library, technology for a lab, etc.
Gifts-in-Kind are items that are given to the school rather than cash. If you have an item in mind to donate, please contact the Director of Development or the applicable Department Chair to make sure that this item can be accepted, used, stored, and properly maintained by the school.
