Wakefield Parents' Association
The goal of the Wakefield Parents' Association (WPA) is to foster a sense of community, fun and fellowship at Wakefield School. Both our existence and our activities are based upon a commitment to support the school to which we entrust the education and development of our children. The WPA's committees coordinate the resources, talents, and efforts of parent volunteers to provide the little "extras" that enrich the lives of our children and their families.
The WPA also serves as an important communication channel and information resource for the parent community. All parents at Wakefield School are members of the WPA. Dues of $50 per family are collected with your tuition billing in July.
WPA MEETING DATES 2016-2017
Future dates to be announced.
All meetings will start at 8:30 a.m. in the Archwood House Boardroom (unless otherwise specified) and conclude at 9:30 a.m.
Being a Room or Grade Parent is an important gift to our school, our faculty, and our students. Wakefield School needs and wants its parents to be involved in the effort to make their children's experience at their school as interesting, fun, and memorable as possible. Room parents in the Lower School help the teachers run curriculum based events and an occasional class party. In the Middle School and Upper School, we help the school run key events such as the Middle School Closing and Graduation.
Lower School girls in 1st through 5th grades support Wakefield's Upper School Athletics & Performing Arts throughout the school year in this spirit club.
The Owl's Outlet is our on-campus store for branded items, "spirit wear," and other Fighting Owl gifts for the Wakefield community. The Outlet is located on the main level of the Roberts Building. The store also offers staple items such as school ties and patches. The Owl's Outlet is open Monday mornings from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. and Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. as well as during some of our all-school events.
Used Uniform Store
For many years the WPA has been in charge of collecting gently used uniforms and organizing them in Used Uniform sales for the benefit of all of our parents with rapidly growing children. We have now established the Used Uniform Store as a permanent resource for parents. The Used Uniform Store is located near the Owls' Outlet in the Roberts Building and is open Monday mornings from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. and Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m.
This dinner is held to welcome new families into our community and give returning families a chance to re-connect at the beginning of the school year. This is a purely social event, so come early and stay late with fellow Wakefield parents.
Spooktacular Halloween Event
Cars are lined up for Trunk-or-Treat at the front of the school and compete for the Best in Decoration. The campus is suitably decorated in spooky splendor. Creepy science experiments and ghastly visions greet the children in the halls of the Roberts Building and movies are shown in the Lower Gym. The Middle School students have their own special activities, designed each year by the Spooktacular Committee. The Upper School students enjoy their traditional Scream on the Green movie screening out on the front lawn after the younger students have all gone home.
Join friends and families for a night of free bingo. Parents donate fabulous baskets for all ages that are won during the evening. Ten fun games of bingo are played. Delicious food is offered for sale by our parent partners in the Booster Club.
Donuts with Dads
To give them some special attention each year, Dads are invited to come to school, have coffee and donuts with their children, and interact with other dads and teachers. It is a great morning, not to be missed.
Muffins with Mom
Teacher Appreciation Committee
Parent volunteers arrange surprises for our hard-working faculty and staff throughout the school year and also during Teacher Appreciation Week.
