Brian Oliver - Boys' Varsity Lacrosse Coach

Coach Oliver brings significant lacrosse background to Wakefield's Varsity Lacrosse team including a playing career in competitive high school, college, and club leagues and conferences.  He played in the New England Division 1 Independent School high school league and in college at Trinity College (NESCAC conference).  He has served as the head coach of Wakefield's middle school team for the past two years and coached them to their first league championship.  "I am thrilled to have Brian as our coach.  He has a track record of taking players of varying levels of experience and developing them to create great teams.  He is a producer of overachievers and places players at excellent colleges which is exactly what we are looking for at Wakefield," says Paul G. Sipes, Athletic Director of Wakefield School.

"I believe that a team is always stronger when players understand their responsibilities and work together towards a common goal.  I believe that every player can make meaningful contributions towards these goals whether as a starter or as a role player.  I do not cater to individual play, but rather to systems that emphasize the strength that can be gained in numbers.

"I am thrilled that Peter Morgan will be taking the head coaching reins in the middle school.  I am very lucky to have Tim Mahoney back for his third season as the assistant coach for the varsity squad," says Coach Oliver.

Her goals for the Middle School team are to improve players' basic skills and to foster a true team mentality.  While it would be nice to have a winning season, she is more focused on improvement over the season, both in the growth of the girls as players, and the growth of the girls as members of a team.

With the exception of her four years of college at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, Coach Smith has been a Virginia native for the past decade.  She is looking forward to a great season and can't wait for the girls' first draw!
