Music

The Arts Department at Wakefield offers a number of courses and opportunities for students to discover and pursue their passion in music.

Beginning in Pre-Kindergarten, music is part of the curriculum. Lower School students learn songs and play instruments as part of their foreign language curriculum as well as prepare songs for the Grandparents’ Day celebration each November.

Opportunities for singing and playing instruments exist throughout the year with our All School plays. All middle school students are required to take musical instruction each year. Offerings include hand bells, percussion, brass, and strings, piano keyboard, as well as chorus. Upper School offers chorus, music theory, music history and literature, and music composition.

Our faculty, well known and respected performers, offers students the opportunity to compete and participate in areas outside of Wakefield as well. A recent example offered one of our seniors the opportunity to sing with the National Cathedral Chorus and contribute to a nationally-release CD of music thereof.
