Learn by doing…Reinforce by doing…Experiential learning is offered to Wakefield’s Middle and Upper School students.
Experiential learning is the cornerstone of Wakefield’s Middle School program. We are committed to tapping into the whole student: the thinker, the creator, the adventurer, and the public servant. To be immersed in the experience of doing something unusual, something challenging, something out of the everyday, can spark a young person’s imagination and motivation in ways in which textbooks strive and lecturers dream. Middle School Experiential Learning Guide
With the whole student in mind, our Middle School Discovery Week provides students with experiential learning opportunities that are outside of the classroom. The week is concentrated on adventure, knowledge, culture or service depending on the option chosen by the student. These experiences are tied to the curriculum by activities and discussions. Some of the recent Middle School Discovery Week offerings include:
- Cezanne: Founder of Modern Art (NYC, Philadelphia, Washington, DC)
- Equine Adventure
- Codes and Spies 101
- Presidential Residential: Home Tours of Virginia Presidents
- Polo In Middleburg
Upper School offers students mission-appropriate activities and adventures without sacrificing valuable classroom time. Freshman and sophomores are presented with targeted experiences, while juniors bond while on the College Tour. Seniors enjoy their final class trip after their senior thesis is completed.
