Admission

Welcome. I am delighted that you have taken the opportunity to view our website and learn more about Wakefield School.

By exploring our website, you will learn that our Lower School students focus on learning the fundamentals that will make them successful Middle and Upper School students.

The academic work is balanced with an emphasis on character education and a lot of fun! Middle School students combine a classical course of study, including required Latin in the sixth grade, with a strong experiential component that encourages, and requires, that students step outside of their comfort zone and reach for new challenges and experiences. The year-long senior thesis project is the culminating experience for Upper School students as it allows them to put to use the writing, analytical, and articulation skills that they have honed during their four years of high school.

All of these elements are part of what makes Wakefield School a special place. However, what you will feel when you visit is the essence of Wakefield. It is a feeling that is difficult to articulate, but is ever present in the air that we breathe on our hill in The Plains, VA.

I felt it the moment I came to look at Wakefield School several years ago. The essence of Wakefield is the result of the coming together of the physical place-there are precious few places more beautiful than the Virginia Piedmont-and genuine community based on consideration and intellect.

The essence of Wakefield is a rare combination of setting and community that naturally inspires the self-exploration which is the heart of a great education. I knew right away that this was a unique place that I wanted to be a part of for some time. I hope that you will visit our campus soon so you can experience the essence of Wakefield for yourself.

Sincerely,
Sarah K. McDonough
