1972 Wakefield Country Day School opens in Huntly, VA.
1978 Wakefield Country Day School is incorporated and applies for tax-exempt status from IRS; school is no longer a proprietary school.
1980 First class is graduated; boys' boarding department established; buildings are enlarged; Wakefield Courtesies written.
1981 Girls' boarding department established.
1982 Wakefield School is first used as new, official school name, replacing Wakefield Country Day School; senior thesis established.
1985 Gymnasium, library, science classrooms completed; boys' dormitory "The Lodge" burns; boys move to new location outside Flint Hill; girls' boarding facility moves to location outside of Washington, VA.
1988 William E. Lynn, Jr. dies; Mrs. Pamela Lynn requested help "to save the school"; Finance Committee formed.
1990 Traditionally structured, independent school board of trustees asked by Mrs. Lynn to assume governance and stewardship of Wakefield School in perpetuity.
1991 Irreconcilable differences between former Headmistress and Board of Trustees develop; Wakefield School evicted from its original campus in August; classes held in town of Marshall from September 1991 until June 1996.
1994 New campus purchased in The Plains, VA.
1996 First phase of new campus completed; Wakefield School moves to The Plains, VA.
1999 Additional general classroom building (Upper School) added.
2001 Wakefield School, now 29 years old, is accredited by VAIS.
2002 Arts & Music building added.
2004 Upper Gym added; new fields, tennis courts, and infrastructure; senior thesis revised.
2006 Science & Technology building added; 13 additional acres donated to Wakefield School.
2008 Wireless campus completed with technology template for all classrooms.
2009 30th class is graduated from Wakefield School.
